Kelly Clarkson Signature – Part 1 of 2

Sunday Aug 31, 2008

Outcome:

Step 1

Start off simply by adding your stock (for the image I’m using, click here). Now create a new layer and go to Image > Applied image. Now move this way over to the side of the stock that you aren’t going to be focusing on. Now, grab a splatter brush, which can be found by running a search for them on www.deviantart.com and erase along the main focus of you signature, in this case, Kelly Clarkson. Now with this layer that you have just erased with *hopefully* some hard edged splatter brushes, right click and go to Blending options. Select stroke, and choose a white color. Now hit ok. Now duplicate the layer you just made, and change the stroke color from white to black. Now lower the fill on this duplicate layer to 0%. This should make the white stroke disappear, and we don’t want that. Nudge this layer (Use the arrow keys) away from the stock area of your signature. This is something like what you should have:

Step 1

Like in the last step, make an applied image. This time though, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur. Select 1-2px. Now set this layer to lighten. This should add a glowing effect to the signature.

Step 1

For this step just go to Layer > Adjustment layer. Now choose gradient map. Select a black to white one. Now set this layer to Soft Light and lower the opacity to around 40-50%.

Step 1

Alright now make another applied image. Now go to Filter > Liquify. Now make it look really messed up and then erase the bulk of it leaving only a few little effects in random parts of the signature.

Step 5

Now, hold control and click on the layer preview for the first layer that you created and erased with splatter brushes. This should now select around it. On a new layer, go to Edit > Fill. Choose an extravagant pattern, such as one from a (real life) wallpaper website. Set this layer to Lighten and lower the opacity if needed.

Step 5

Now add the following Gradient Map adjustment layer on Soft light at 50% opacity.

Step 5

Now, create 2 new layers. On the first layer, add some lines or shapes. Now find a nice smudge brush, one with scatter smudging, and smudge it. The suggested brush would be the one that was given out by Lucky Kevin while selling his Matrix tutorial. It is a square brush with medium brush settings and medium scatter settings.

Step 5

Now, repeat step 7 about 4-6 times. For some of these layers duplicated them to make them more visible and brighter.

Step 5

Now do an applied image like explained in Step 1. Now take out your smudge tool, and smudge the sig like crazy. It should be completely unrecognizable once you are done smudging. Now a good smudge brush would be a “+” or and “x” smudge brush which can be created by making a new 50×50 document and getting out the type tool and typing either “+” or “x” and then going to edit > define brush. Now add some brush settings. Have medium scatter and make all of the other options almost maxed out. Now set this layer to Soft light and about 30-40% opacity.

Step 5

Now add a c4d “effect” render on the right side of your signature over your stock. Set this layer to either lighten or screen, whichever you think looks better.
