Pieced Together Signature - Part 1 of 2

Sunday Aug 31, 2008

Outcome:

Step 1

To start off you will need to find some cinema 4d renders. You can either make these yourself with a program called Maxon Cinema 4D or you can find them here. Now, start off by making a new document and filling it with a very dark gray, nearly black. Now add some of these Cinema 4D renders into your signature on either Screen or Lighten or Linear Dodge. There doesn’t have to be much flow to the signature yet, just add them basically at random. This is what the signature looks like at the moment:

Step 1

Now duplicate one of the more main renders in your signature. This can be done by selecting the layer and hitting Ctrl + J. Now, bring this layer to the top of your layers palette. Now add the blur filter. To do this, go to the Filter menu, then go to Blur, then go to Gaussian blur. Choose about 2px. This should blur it a bit, but it should still be recognizable as a Cinema 4d render.

Step 1

Now two more C4d renders where added on Lighten.

Step 1

Add an image into the center of your signature on Lighten (click here for mine). It should NOT take up the whole signature, although it should cover a good portion of the canvas. Now lower this Layers opacity to 50%. Now duplicate this layer (see step 2 if you don’t remember how) and set it to Color Dodge. Lower the opacity on this layer to 50%.

Step 5

Now you need to add the following Color Balance adjustment layer on Normal Blending mode at 100% opacity:

Step 5

For this step, create a new layer and Fill it with black. Now get out your Radial Gradient Tool. Now make a white to transparent (or black) gradient from the top right hand corner, or the corner that the main part of the signature is NOT in. Now Set this layer to Screen. Leave the opacity on 100%.

Step 5

Now add the following adjustment layers on normal at 100% opacity.

Step 5

Create a new layer and add some gray brushing in some areas you would like to Lighten. Now set this Layer’s Blending Mode to Linear Dodge and lower the opacity to about 50%.

Step 5

Now add the following adjustment layers. The Hue / Saturation layer should be set to Normal at 80% opacity. For the gradient map, change the blending mode to Soft light and the opacity to 50%.

Step 5

Create a new layer and make an applied image. Now go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Select 2px. Now set this layer to Lighten.
