How do you invert a vector mask in Photoshop?

Wednesday Jul 28, 2010

I created a vector mask, but it’s masking out the wrong part.

a simple way to do it would be to finish the mask in the shape you want, then convert it to a selection and choose the inverse selection.

How do I draw a line in photoshop without a layer mask?

Thursday Jul 8, 2010

how do I create a simple line in photoshop without having to deal with that whole layer mask horse shit.

Seriously, I just want a line, not a layered catastrofuck with masks and color blends and shit

1 simple line

there are four ways you can make a line in PS

1. You can use the pen tool and select two points and then right click and choose "Stroke Path"

2. You can use the pencil tool

3. You can use the brush tool

4 You can use the marquee tool and make a 1 pixel box with it, right click then select "Fill.."

Hope that helps.

How to unsharpen mask in Photoshop Elements 7?

Friday Jun 18, 2010

I’d been using a different Photoshop up until now, and sharpening/unsharpening masks were relatively simple. I now have Photoshop 7, and can’t find the Sharpen tool
Does anybody have it and know where it is?
Thank you! :)

Press R (it doesn’t have to be a capital. Just r is OK.) on your keyboard and the location of the Sharpen Tool will highlight on the Toolbar. It looks like a triangle. It’s on a flyout with the Blur and Smudge Tools. There’s also Enhance>Adjust Sharpness and Enhance>Unsharp Mask.

Here are PSE 7 tutorials from Adobe. Use the list over on the left side of the page.

while im drawing a shape in photoshop, vector mask is adding automatically. Can anyone help me out plzzz?

Sunday May 30, 2010

I’m trying to draw a shape in photoshop, but as soon I draw shape vector mask is adding automatically. How to get a normal shape without any masks. please can anyone help me out

Thank You!

Are you asking about using the pen tool and wanting to end up with a path, not a shape?

If that’s the case, when you select the pen tool, look at the top left side of the Photoshop window for the tool options.

You should see 2 little squares, each with dots on all 4 corners. The first one (blank center) creates a shape layer, the 2nd one (pen tip) creates just a path. Click on the 2nd one and draw away.

If you do not see these options, go to your Window pulldown menu and turn Options on.

Alternatively, before you start to draw with the pen tool, go to the path palette and create a new path – then when you draw it will be a path, not a shape.

What does a layer mask in Photoshop do? And how do I use it? What do you use it on?

Tuesday May 11, 2010

This is one of the requirements for my photoshop project is to animate using a mask (layer mask.)…..and I’m really confused.

Layer Masks have all sorts of uses. There are 2 types, a reveal all (white) and a hide all (black) The easiest way to learn about them is to try one. Seriously, it’s faster than trying to explain them in the abstract. This looks harder than it really is. And you need to know how to use them to get good at PS.

Take 2 images that you would like to blend together in some way.

• Start by opening the images that you want to blend on separate layers.
• Open the layers palette
• Select the top layer
• Layer>Layer Mask>Hide All
• A black thumbnail appears on the top layer of the layers palette and the top image is hidden
• Click on the Mask to make sure it’s selected and not the image itself
• Choose a soft white brush
• Paint on the canvas (big image) with the white brush
• As you paint, you’ll see the top layer revealed
• You can vary the opacity of the paint brush to feather the reveal
• You can vary the color (grey) of the brush to feather the reveal
• You can vary the opacity and fill of the layer to blend the reveal

In this example I used a black (hide all) Layer Mask and painted with white to reveal the layer. If you choose a white (reveal all) Layer Mask and paint with black, the effect will be reversed. The top layer will hide the bottom. As you paint with black, the top layer will be hidden.

One of the very best things about this method is that it’s non-destructive. If you make a mistake, just paint back over the mask with the opposite color and the effect is reversed. This is especially helpful when working with detail.

Blending images is not the only thing you can use layer masks for. That was just the easiest thing to use to give you a tutorial with.
• You can apply filters to them like blurs to effect the masked image.
• You can use them to create vignettes.
• You can apply gradients to them to cause an image to darken or lighten in perspective.
• You can set them up as alpha channels and use them to recall a selection
The list goes on and on. They’re a very powerful tool. They give you lots of reversible control.

Is there no layer mask for photoshop elements 8?

Monday Apr 26, 2010

on the photoshop we use in class, the layer can go right onto the layer you want to mask. is this possible with elements 8? if it’s not…how can i get this function on elements 8?

No, Elements doesn’t have a Layer Mask but you can easily add one. It will appear in the Action Player. Grant’s Tools, Richard Lynch’s Hidden Power Freebies and Elements Plus Demo all include a Layer Mask along with a few other useful Photoshop "tools" that Elements doesn’t "show". I say "show" because Elements is a build of Photoshop. This means that Adobe takes the Photoshop program and puts a new workspace, toolbar, etc. on it but a lot of the code for Photoshop things that don’t show up in Elements is still there. I have all of the above add ons and would recommend the Elements Plus Demo. It self-installs and works really well. Click the Demo Version link in the 4th paragraph, select your version of Elements and your operating system and download.

(FYI – the Demo version is fully functional and not time-limited. It’s not a trial version.)

I have an emergency. Whenever I start a new project in photoshop a layer mask automatically comes with each ne?

Sunday Jun 14, 2009

A layer mask comes with each new layer when i;ve not opted for a layer mask

I've been using PS2 for a while and I've never encountered that. It may always be something that a later version may have a checkbox in the preferences or in the layer properties. If the program was not doing it before and now suddenly does, you may want to reinstall photoshop. I had to do that because my CS2 was doing some strange things as well. I found that using the explore option for the CD drive and using the non-autorun setup file worked.
