When you define a pattern in photoshop how do you stop it tiling/ repeating itself?

Wednesday Jul 28, 2010

Exactly what i say, do i need to seize or somethingHELLP

I thnk that you may be getting patterns and shapes mixed up. Patterns will always tile (repeat).

Have a look at creating a custom shape instead as they are singluar and do not tile.

Do a google search for ‘photoshop custom shape tutorial’

They are quite simple once you get the hang.

Good luck :)

how do i turn off the pattern setting on adobe photoshop elements?

Thursday Jul 8, 2010

The patterns selection got turned on Adobe Photoshop Elements while I was fixing scratches on a photo . I don’t know how I accidentally turned it on and I can’t figure out how to turn it off! Thanks for any help.

If you were fixing scratches, you were probably using the Clone Tool. On the same flyout as the Clone Tool is the Clone Stamp which uses patterns. You might be using the Clone Stamp instead of the Clone Tool. Click and hold on the Clone Tool in the Toolbar and make sure you’ve got the right one highlighted.

Pattern is also an option of the Paintbucket although we usually don’t use it to fix scratches. Click on the Paintbucket then look up on the left side of the Options Bar above the workspace. Pattern should be UNchecked. If it isn’t, click on the checkmark that’s there to turn it off.

How do I convert a .pat (photoshop pattern file) into a .jpg or .png?

Friday Jun 18, 2010

I want this pattern to display on my website as a background, but I can’t do that if it’s a .pat file, obviously. How can I convert this file?

I guess you can’t do that directly so first draw a vector image on the photshop document then
save it as any format ->right click and go to the blender options->then in the patter sections select whatever you want add that into your vector image->then resize the entire canvas and save it again as jpg format now consider you got 256pxX256x size image

in the body section of the HTML file

style="background-image:imagename.jpg"

add this

example
<body style="background-image : url( imagename.jpg ) " >
</body>

How to import border pattern in Adobe photoshop?

Tuesday May 11, 2010

I’m trying to modify my images by putting a border around them. I want a good Wooden finish touch and I’m not finding this pattern available. I can see that we have a ‘Load patterns’ function in the ‘Custom pattern’ section. however it is disabled. How can I enable it? Or is there any other way to add a ‘Wood’ Border to the images?
I have a Adobe Photoshop Element 6.0 version

Load patterns using Edit>Preset Manager. (I’d never noticed before that the Load function was grayed out in the Pattern selector.) I explain how below.

There are "smart" frames in the Content Palette. In the left box select "By Type" from the dropdown and, in the righthand box, select "Frames. I find them difficult to use but others find them easy.
file:///C:/Program%20Files/Common%20Files/Adobe/Help/en_US/PhotoshopElements/6.0/help.html?content=PHOTOSHOPELEMENTS_HOMEPAGE.html

There are also frames in Custom shapes. These can be selected with the Magic Wand Tool and a pattern applied with the Paintbrush Tool.

I like to make my own frames. Once you get used to making your own, the sky’s the limit. First, a couple of freebies that you might be interested in. Spiral Graphics makes programs to make tiled textures for 3D work but I use their freebies to make patterns, textures and bump maps for Elements. I’ve used them on both XP and Vista with no problems. It takes a few minutes to figure out how they work – hint: use the icons to do the next steps – but I caught on;-) Their tiles work really well for frames.

The first is Wood Workshop. You can create an infinite number of woods, can change patterns, number of knots, colors, etc. with this program. You can create plain boards or parquet-like patterns.

http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/ww_overview.htm

The second is their regular freebie, Genetica Viewer. (It’s called "Viewer" because it can’t create the textures/patterns. They’re created with the full program, Genetica.)

http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/release3-23-09.htm#

You download the viewer and the texture packs and can do some editing of the patterns but not as much as in Wood Workshop.

If you have some images you’d like to use as a pattern, open it in Elements. Resize it if you need to. Patterns are tiled (repeated) so the original image doesn’t have to be very large. I usually use 256X256 pixels. Also, because they’re tiled, not every image can be used. This is why the programs I mentioned above are so nice. They automatically create tileable images.

Anywho, once you have the image set up to be used as a pattern, Edit>Define as Pattern. A pop up will appear. Give your pattern a name. Hint: If you’re going to be making more patterns, it’s best to use a series name. When I make wood patterns I use Light Wood, Dark Wood, Cherry_____, Walnut _____ – something descriptive that is a catagory. Then I fill in knotty, smooth, woven and finally I stick on a number 1, 2, 3, etc. and, if I need to, I also add a letter, 1b, 1c… Since you can see the pattern in the pattern selection dropdown, you just need the names to keep the patterns organized not to tell one from another.

Now, that you’ve made your pattern, Edit>Preset Manager. In the main dropdown select Patterns. Click on More and in the list, click on Default. The pattern you load will be added to whatever set of patterns you have selected. (You can make additional catagories for your new patterns but for now let’s stick to making a wooden frame.) Use Default so you can easily remember where the pattern is;-) Now, click on Load, browse to where you saved your new pattern, highlight it and click OK.

I usually add a wood border by zooming out of the image, using the Crop Tool to increase the canvas size equally around the image and then use the Paintbucket Tool to fill the new area with white. Use the Magic Wand to select the new area. Create a new layer (which automatically has the selection on it. Use the Paintbucket Tool with "Pattern" checked up in the Options Bar and a pattern selected to fill the selected area. Apply a Bevel to the pattern in the selection from the Styles section of the Effects Palette. Click the little fx on the layer that now looks like a frame to tweak the bevel and the lighting. I made a copy of the frame layer and used an Overlay blend mode which gave the frame more depth. Done.

If there’s something you need help with email me. It’s not as hard as it sounds.
