I have recently got to grips with photoshop and most recently illustrator however I am lacking shapes and general brushes etc so cannot seem to find any on the net… any ideas? thanks alot
Brusheezy.com and Vectoreezy.com. They are great sites, and they link to some of the wonderful artists who provide lots of cool free brushes, vectors, textures, and so on.
By the way, I also suggest you Google “making your own brushes in Photoshop” or “creating brushes in Photoshop” because you can make your own brushes from all sorts of things.
Hope that helps.

A quick how to install tutorial and basic use of the custom shapes CSH files in Adobe (R) Photoshop (R) Elements 6.0 on Vista. Screenshots only, no commentary. The shapes files can be installed in other locations but one of the install folders is the presets ‘custom shapes’ folder. Once there, the shapes can be used in the cookie cutter or custom shapes tool. The shapes are not accessed via the artworks / effects palettes. The shapes in this tutorial are from graphicxtras.com (people and talk and letters shapes packs). Screenshots are with kind permission of Adobe Systems Incorporated.

I was asked to design a logo for a new resturant, and its going to be called latitudes, well the theme is contemporary, and they have a lot of squares and rectangle shapes in the carpet and wall art, they wanted the word latitudes to have where the dot in the i would go, to be a geometrical shape of some sort to pull it all together. Are there any websites i can go to to download special shapes for photoshop, (like how you can download fonts). please and thank you
Photoshop isn't the right tool for the job. If you're doing logo design, you should be using a vector-based design application such as Adobe Illustrator. If the logo is vector-based, it can be infinitely resized without losing quality (i.e. curves won't look "jagged"). Illustrator has some great shape tools.

In this video I will show you two methods of creating simple shapes in Adobe Photoshop.

I mean shapes as in hearts, diamonds, flare shapes, etc. to a picture
Please & thank you!
Those are made using brushes.
Go to http://www.obsidiandawn.com and click on brushes on the menu at the top. Click on a thumbnail to see all the brushes in the set.
I don't know if you have Mac or Windows but in Windows use Windows Explorer to find Adobe>Photoshop….. and finally the brushes folder. If you click on this folder it will be full of abr files. Copy and paste any new brushes you get in this folder.
But…an easier method is to make a new folder on your desktop called Photoshop Extras and put your new brush files in it. Then open the program and find File Associations (in the Open or Edit menu usually) and follow the instructions to put the name of your PS Extras folder in. When you want to use the new brushes, click on the Brush Tool and then the brush selector up in the options bar at the top of the workspace, scroll down and look for any new brushes you put in the PS Brushes folder using Explorer. Click the brush dropdown at the top to see if they're listed there. If they aren't, then click the big arrowhead at the top of the brush selector, look for the name of the brush and load it to use it.
I know this sounds confusing but I don't know what OS you have or what version of PS you have. Sorry.
To make a brush stamp the colors you want or to give it effects or filters, right click on the shape and click simplify. To put brush stamps where you want them only put one shape on each layer then use the move tool to move.
